Black History Month at BMM: Our History, Our Heat, Our Freedom

This October, Black Meat Market is marking Black History Month with a full weekend of events in London. From Friday 23 to Sunday 25 October, we are bringing together seven different BMM experiences across three days, giving Black gay, bi and DL men different ways to meet, connect, play, create and enjoy the weekend together.
We begin on Friday with Mandem Playhouse, our naked games night for Black men. It is followed by Rogue, our late-night club experience at Bar Silver in Islington, bringing BMM into the club with music, dancing and a wider crowd. Later that night, DL Bruthas Link-Up: Brudda Yard takes over East London, creating a private and discreet space specifically for Black men who prefer the DL Link-Up environment.
Saturday brings another side of BMM with BlackRoom Sessions, our content-creation experience in East London. It is a space for Black creators and participants to meet, shoot content and create together. Then, from midnight, Bare It All: Ohene takes over Wembley for one of our signature fully naked, sex-positive experiences for Black men.
Sunday slows things down during the afternoon with Melanin Indulgence, bringing massage, touch and relaxation into the weekend before we finish Black History Month Weekend with Bare It All: Baddest. From 9pm until 3am, it becomes the final naked experience of the weekend and our closing event after three days together.
What we wanted from this Black History Month Weekend was range. BMM has never been about expecting every Black man to want exactly the same thing. Some want to dance. Some want a discreet link-up. Some want to game and meet other men. Some want to create content. Some want massage and intimacy. Others come specifically for the freedom of our naked, sex-positive spaces. Across these three days, there is room for all of those experiences.
Black History Month is naturally a time to recognise our history, but it can also be a time to celebrate Black life as it exists now. That includes Black gay, bi and DL men finding one another, enjoying our bodies, building friendships, expressing our sexuality, creating together and having spaces in which Black men are at the centre rather than an afterthought.
That is what we want this weekend to feel like. Three days. Seven events. One Black History Month Weekend in London.
